The Clippers will be shooting for a sixth straight home victory when they host Milwaukee tonight.
The Bucks have won 13 of their last 16 games. The key has been the play of Milwaukee’s Big Three:
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday. When those three are on the floor, the Bucks are +11.4 points per 100 possessions. The Bucks average 116.7 points and give up 105.3. The trio of Bucks did not play on Saturday giving them some extra rest before tonight’s game.
Los Angeles will be without Rajon Rondo, who has yet to make his Clippers debut. The hosts will also be missing Patrick Beverley and Serge Ibaka. The issue with not having Ibaka and Beverley is that it shortens the Clippers’ bench. As a result, the defense suffers.
For the season, L.A. allows 112.8 points per game per 100 possessions, right around the league average. With Ibaka and Beverley out of the lineup, that number moves up to 115.5, which would rank as the fifth-worst in the NBA.
Tonight’s game will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. When they played back in February, Antetokounmpo had 36 points and the Bucks won 105-100. Milwaukee was favored by 2.5 in that game.
Fast forward and now the Bucks are a one-point underdog despite the Clippers being down two key players. The total in that first matchup was set at 232.5. Tonight’s total is 229.5.
While the February game came nowhere near the total, tonight will be different. The combination of Milwaukee’s Big Three and L.A.’s not having Beverley and Ibaka is going to lead to a shootout at the Staples Center.
Don’t forget, the total went Over in four of Milwaukee’s last five games and in three of the Clippers’ last four. It’s a big number, but this one’s going Over.
