The Los Angeles Clippers travel north to San Francisco to try and get back on track with a win against Golden State. It’s something the Clippers have been getting used to as they have beaten the Warriors in their last three meetings. Can they do it again?
A Clippers win on Wednesday night depends upon whether or not Paul George is ready to play. George sat out Tuesday night’s loss to San Antonio. He is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game. Whether or not George plays, bettors can still find value in this matchup.
There is no question the Clippers are a better basketball team with George in the lineup. He leads the team in scoring averaging 25.1 points per game. Without George on Tuesday night, Kawhi Leonard scored 30 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Clips lost to San Antonio 116-113.
Los Angeles is still a playoff caliber team without George, but Leonard cannot do it all by himself. It’s interesting to note that in the seven games George has played this season the Clippers are 5-2 with a net rating of +2.1. In their lone game without him, L.A. is 0-1 with a net rating of -3.1.
On the other end, Golden State is somewhat similar to the Clippers. With former two-time league MVP Stephen Curry on the floor, the Warriors are an outstanding basketball team. With Klay Thompson out for the season again, the Warriors return to glory falls squarely on Curry.
He has responded extremely well. Golden State has won two straight setting a Chase Center record for scoring in the process. In a 137-122 win over Portland on Sunday, Curry hit 18-of-31 shots from the field and scored a career-best 62 points.
Curry followed that up with 30 points the very next night in a 137-106 win over Sacramento. The 137 points scored by the Warriors were the most in the short two-year history of the new Chase Center. The two wins also gave the Warriors a 2-1 record at home this season.
Like Leonard or George for the Clippers, Curry cannot do it alone either. A key for Golden State will be Curry’s supporting cast, which has come through in the last two games. In the win over the Kings, seven players, including Curry, scored in double figures.
With that kind of production, the Warriors can pull off the upset over the Clippers, who are a 4-point favorite. The Warriors are 4-3 this season. They are a perfect 4-0 when they reach 100 or more points. The Warriors are a winless 0-3 when they do not.
Bettors looking to play the Total should note that the Over has cashed in nine of the last 11 games when the Clippers have played Golden State on the road. It’s also worth noting the Over has hit in seven of the Warriors last 10 games and six of their last seven at home.
With George out or playing on a sore ankle and the Clippers having played last night, look for L.A. to score right around their average of 110.9 points per game. The Clips have played well against Golden State recently, but this could be a game where Curry goes off again. The bottom line is that playing a Total of 234 on Wednesday is a bit tricky.
The better play and the real value are on Golden State. They won each of their last two games, both at home. They also covered the spread as the underdog in both of those games. The Warriors are 3-1 ATS in their last four games. At home, take Golden State to cover.
