Mavericks @ Heat (MIA -3.5, 215.5)

Mavericks @ Heat 5/4/21

Dallas travels to Miami in a battle of sixth-place teams in the East and West. The Mavericks are just glad they aren’t playing Sacramento. Dallas is 6-3 in its last nine games with all three losses to the Kings.

The Heat are part of a four-team race in the middle of the East standings. The fourth-place Knicks and the seventh-place Celtics are separated by just three games. Miami is one game ahead of Boston making tonight’s game even more important as the Heat attempt to avoid the play-in tournament.

Kristaps Porzingis, who missed Sunday’s loss to Sacramento, is listed as doubtful for Dallas tonight. Porzingis has missed five of the last six Mavs’ games with knee and ankle issues. Whether or not Porzingis had anything to do with it, Dallas managed just 99 points in the loss to the Kings.

In fact, Dallas scored 106 and 107 in the other two losses to Sacramento. In both games, the total went Under.

Miami presents a much tougher task for Dallas and star Luka Doncic. The Heat rank fourth in the league in points allowed per game. Also, the Mavericks rank ninth in the same category.

Where this is all headed is a play on tonight’s Under. Yes, the total in the last six Heat games has gone Over, but none of the six game totals was greater than 213.

The last time Miami faced a total higher than 213, the result was an Under. On April 19 and 21 in games against Houston and San Antonio, the total was set at 215.5. That should sound familiar as it is tonight’s total. In both of those games, the total ended up going Under.

Tonight’s game will be a defensive battle between two teams needing a win to keep a hold on sixth place in their conference. The result will take the total Under.
