SAM HOUSTON @ LOUISIANA TECH (LT -16.5, 48.5)

Tonight, Sam Houston State (0-7, 0-4 C-USA) will travel to Joe Aillet Stadium to play Louisiana Tech (4-3, 2-2 C-USA) in an attempt to win their first road game of the season. The Bearkats, 3.5-point underdogs, just lost to UTEP 35–17. The Bulldogs were 5.5-point favorites but lost to Western Kentucky 28-27 in overtime in their last game.

Sam Houston State has a 2-1 record against Louisiana Tech in three games. Last season, the Bearkats prevailed 9-3.

The Bearkats enter this game on a seven-game losing streak and have only covered the spread once this season. They have won two of the last three meetings against Louisiana Tech. They lost badly to UTEP at home in their most recent game on October 15. After more than thirty-five minutes with the ball, Sam Houston's team collapsed in the fourth quarter, giving up two Miners touchdowns.

Sam Houston State ranks 129th in the country with an average of 17.3 points per game. They rush for an average 114.6 yards and throw for 180 yards.

QB Hunter Watson has passed for 915 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions while completing 60% of his passes. In addition, he has two touchdowns and 211 rushing yards. Landan Brown leads the team with 29 catches for 160 yards, while Alton McCaskill leads all rushers with 48 carries for 249 yards and one touchdown.

Against UTEP, the Bearkats used three quarterbacks: Mabrey Mettauer, Landyn Locke, and Watson. This season, Locke and Mettauer have both seen little action. Watson may or may not be at full strength.

The Bearkats defense is one of the worst in the nation giving up 38.9 points per game, Sam Houston State ranks 133rd in the nation in points allowed. They are allowing 183.9 rushing yards and 272.4 passing yards per game.

The Bulldogs lost to Western Kentucky and Kennesaw State after winning three straight games. On October 21, they suffered a crushing defeat at home against Western Kentucky. After Andrew Burnette's two-yard run in overtime gave the Bulldogs a 27–20 lead, the Hilltoppers scored and went for two to win the game. In that game, quarterback Blake Baker ran for 49 yards and threw for 340 yards with a touchdown.

Louisiana Tech ranks 88th in the country with an average of 25.1 points per game. They rush for 141.1 yards and throw for 189.6 yards per game.

QB Blake Baker has passed for 989 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has completed 64 percent of his passes. In addition, he has two touchdowns and 219 rushing yards. Eli Finley leads the team with 22 receptions for 288 yards, while Clay Thevenin leads all runners with 296 yards and three touchdowns.

Louisiana Tech is 23rd in the country in terms of points allowed per game, allowing 18.7 points. Opponents rush for 104.3 yards and pass for 262.3 yards.

The Bearkats have dropped their last four road games, while the Bulldogs have won three of their last four home games. Due to their strong offensive play and ability to run the ball, Louisiana Tech has the advantage over the Bearkats, who have struggled to stop the run. Expect them to perform well offensively in this game because they will be able to throw the ball against one of the worst secondaries in the nation.

The Bulldogs have one of the worst offenses in the nation, so the Bearkats will struggle to keep up with LT. Regardless of the quarterback, they have a poor passing game and a marginally better ground game. Expect the Bulldogs to limit Sam Houston State's offense because they are among the best in the nation against the run and keep opponents to under 20 points per game.

FREE PICK: LOUISIANA TECH -16.5

Louisiana Tech is a very good defensive team, allowing less than 20 points per game. Sam Houston doesn't generate much offense and they aren't good on third down or in the red zone. Sam Houston has given up 29 or more points in all 7 of its games so far and the offense just doesn't score enough to keep any of their games close. They've lost their four road games this season by an average margin of 28 points.
