At first glance, it’s almost comical that Toronto, which has one win in its last 13 games, is a 7.5-point favorite on the road at Oklahoma City. But, Thunder leading scorer Shia Gilgeous-Alexander and his 23.7 points per game will not play.
Then, you add in Luguentz Dort (12.6 ppg) and Darius Bazley (11.9 ppg) and you have three of the Thunder’s top five scorers that will be in street clothes tonight.
Now, it makes sense.
Toronto leading scorers Pascal Siakam, Kyle Lowry, and Fred VanVleet will all play for the Raptors who haven’t had much success lately. In addition to losing 12 of their last 13 games, the Raptors have only covered in four of those games.
One thing that has trended for Toronto as of late is the Over. Going back a few more games to their last 15, the total has gone Over in 10 of those 15 games. That includes each of the last two.
The one issue with backing the Over tonight is Oklahoma’s ability to score. The Thunder rank 27th in scoring averaging 106.1 points a game. OKC has lost its last three games scoring 106, 94, and 107 points in the process.
With their top three scorers out, can the Thunder score enough points? The better question might be can the Thunder stop anyone on defense? The total has actually gone Over in two of the last three Thunder games including Monday’s loss to Dallas where the total was set at 221.
The Over is 14-9 in Oklahoma City home games this year and the total has gone over in seven of the last nine games in which the Thunder have played the Raptors.
Oklahoma City (11th) and Toronto (13th) are ranked in the top 15 in possessions per game indicating that they play at a faster pace than most teams. Tonight’s matchup should be a fast-paced event that goes Over the posted total of 222.
