The Royals have the pitching advantage here. Cole Ragans has emerged into a bona fide contender for the American League Cy Young award. He has allowed just 1 earned run in each of his last two starts. He picked up wins in both of those outings and is now 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA for the season. One look at his metrics and you know he's a good one. His xERA is 3.42 and his FIP is 2.15!
Opposite Ragans will be Milwaukee's Bryse Wilson. He's off to a good start in 2024 with a 2-1 record and a solid 3.00 ERA. But, if you look at Wilson's numbers, you'll find that he has benefited from some luck. His xERA is 4.14 and FIP is 4.57. Those numbers suggest that his 3.00 ERA is unsustainable.
Milwaukee saved all of its key relievers yesterday, which is why I'll back Ragans in the first half of tonight's game. KC is 16-11-8 on the F5 moneyline so far this season.
NY METS @ ST. LOUIS (STL -130, 8)

This pitching matchup leads the Coach to the Over. Sean Manaea will start for the Mets. He has pitched well so far in terms of record and results. Manaea is 1-1 and the Mets have won four of his six starts this season. Manaea has only pitched more than 5 innings once this season and that was in his season opener back on April 1.
The problem with Manaea is this. He doesn't have a decision in his last three starts. Over his last four, Manaea has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 16-to-14. While he has a very respectable 3.07 ERA, Manaea's xERA is 4.72. That spells trouble.
On the other side, Kyle Gibson will start for the Cardinals. He's 2-2 and coming off his best performance of the season. He pitched 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, and allowed just one run in a win over the Tigers.
The problem for Gibson is that his xERA is 5.52 and that is an indicator of negative regression coming. On Sunday, St. Louis used three relievers in a 5-1 loss to the White Sox. The Mets used six in a 7-6 loss to the Rays. The tired arms will benefit the hitters tonight.
