CAVALIERS VS. MAGIC 4/25/24
On Thursday night in Orlando, Florida, the Cleveland Cavaliers will try to send the Magic to the verge of elimination when they play Game 3 of their first-round Eastern Conference series. The fourth-seeded Cavaliers got off to a pair of wins in Cleveland to start the best-of-seven series led by Donovan Mitchell. The five-time All-Star scored 23 points in Monday's 96-86 victory and 30 points in Saturday's 97-83 series opener against the fifth-seeded Magic.
On Monday, Jarrett Allen finished with a personal playoff-high 20 rebounds and 16 points. It was his fifth career playoff double-double and second of the series. Along with Brad Daugherty and Kevin Love, he became the third Cavalier in franchise history to grab 20 boards in a postseason game. He now has 38 rebounds through the first two games of the series.
Orlando is hosting its first playoff game since April 21, 2019, after finishing the regular season with a 29-12 home record. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley is excited to have his team play in front of what he anticipates to be an enthusiastic Orlando crowd.
Orlando probably would have benefited from quicker starts in Game 1 and 2, but slow starts have been a trend for the Magic. Thirteen of Orlando’s last 15 games in the regular season saw them trail by the end of the first quarter.
Paolo Banchero of Orlando scored 21 points on Monday night. That came on the heels of his 24-point effort in the first game of the series. Banchero did, however, have a total of 15 turnovers in the first two games of the series. Franz Wagner scored 18 and had seven rebounds in Game 1 and then repeated those same numbers in Game 2.
Despite recovering from a left knee injury he sustained in Monday's game, Jalen Suggs, the Magic's best perimeter defender, plans to play in Game 3. He is listed as probable for tonight’s game.
Cleveland is now 8-2 SU in its last 10 games against the Magic. The Cavs were great at home this season (29-12), but they have won just one of their last seven road games and they are 18-25 away from home this season.
