When the Boston Celtics play the New York Knicks tonight, they hope to extend their season-best winning streak to eight games. In their first game after the All-Star break, the Celtics defeated the Chicago Bulls 129–112 on the road on Thursday to win their seventh straight game.
Derrick White finished with 28 points, Jayson Tatum finished with 25, and Jaylen Brown added 21 to showcase Boston's offensive depth. Boston made 23-of-37 three-pointers. Tatum and White each made five attempts from beyond the arc. Tatum averages a team-high 27.1 points per game and he is among those being mentioned as a potential NBA MVP candidate this season.
On Thursday, the Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 110-96 to snap a four-game losing streak. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 21 points and 12 assists in the victory. Bojan Bogdanovic scored 22 points for the Knicks, Josh Hart added 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Precious Achiuwa added 18 points and 11 rebounds. New York hit 15 of its 34 three-point tries against Philly. The Knicks teamwork showed and Bogdanvic didn’t miss from long range. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the three-point line.
The Knicks are still playing without G/F OG Anunoby (elbow), center Mitchell Robinson (ankle), and forward Julius Randle (shoulder). When the three of them return is still a mystery. The Knicks are undermanned right now, but head coach Tom Thibodeau knows that and is adapting.
This will be the fourth and final meeting between the Celtics and Knicks this season. Boston won each of the first three. The Knicks are 19-8 at home this season. Boston is a pretty good road team, going 18-9 away from TD Garden. The Celtics have won their last five straight road games.
Boston isn’t all that strong against the number. The Celtics have only covered three of their last seven games and they are 26-27-3 for the season. The Knicks are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games and 15-11-1 ATS at home this season.
New York is one of the top Under teams in the NBA with a 23-33 O/U record for the season. In their last 15 games at home, the Knicks have seen the Under cash 12 times. The Knicks will have their hands full with the Celtics offense which ranks No. 5 in the league in scoring (120.7 ppg). In the two games in Boston, the Celtics averaged 124 points. In the one game in New York this season, the Knicks held the Celtics to just 108 points.
