WARRIORS vs. LAKERS 5/6/23

The defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors bounced back to even up this series and are now on the road, which is not as intimidating as it once was. After a resounding 127-100 victory in Game 2, the Warriors evened their Western Conference semifinal series against the Los Angeles Lakers at one game each. Game 3 of the series will now take place in Los Angeles tonight.

With the help of superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the No. 7-seed Lakers prevailed 117-112 in Game 1. But on Thursday, the Warriors' stars stole the show as Klay Thompson scored 30 points on the strength of eight three-pointers while Stephen Curry chipped in 20 points and 12 assists.

The Warriors excel at long-range shooting, making 21-of-42 attempts from beyond the arc (50 percent) in Game 2, a marked improvement over their 21-of-53 performance in the series opener. An NBA record was set in the first two games of the playoff series with the 42 made three-pointers. After shooting 9-for-25 in Game 1, Thompson was much more relaxed in Game 2 and it showed.

It’s no secret that Golden State was awful on the road this season. In 42 games on the road during the regular season, the Warriors won just 11 times. However, they managed to win both of their away games in their first-round series with the Sacramento Kings, including the decisive Game 7.

Davis led the Lakers to victory in Game 1 with 30 points and 23 rebounds, but he was limited to just 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting and just seven rebounds in Game 2. Rui Hachimura contributed 21 points off the bench in addition to James' 23 points.

The Warriors took control of Game 2 with a 41-point second quarter, then made a statement with 43 points in the third quarter. The Lakers led 33-26 after one quarter.

The Los Angeles Lakers are attempting to emulate their first-round victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Los Angeles took a commanding 3-1 series lead after winning the first game of the series on the road, dropping Game 2, and winning the next two games at home.

The Lakers have won 15 of their last 20 games. They are also 5-1 SU in their last six against the Warriors at home. Golden State has won five of its last seven, but is only 1-4 SU and ATS in the last five games against the Lakers.
