Entering the season, both teams were expected to finish near the top of the NFC, with many predicting they could even contend for the conference title. Christian McCaffrey returned from injury in Week 10 and has surpassed 100 all-purpose yardsin his first two games back. His return has been a boost to a passing game hampered by injuries, with key players Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and Jauan Jennings all missing significant time this season. McCaffrey was targeted 12 times in his first two games back combined, and as he continues to regain his form, his impact will be crucial for the 49ers to get back on track and return to their winning ways.
This game is a rematch of the 2023 NFC Divisional Round, where the 49ers came from behind to win 24-21. The Packers held a 21-14 lead entering the fourth quarter, but a Jake Moody field goal and a Christian McCaffrey touchdown run with just over a minute left sealed the victory for San Francisco. While the 49ers defense didn’t sack Jordan Love in that game, they intercepted him twice and limited him to under 200 passing yards. Despite the win, the game was incredibly close in several key areas—total yards (just a 20-yard difference), total drives (10 each), and time of possession (a 30-second difference). This upcoming matchup promises to be another tightly contested battle that could come down to the wire.
