Cincinnati Bengals vs. Tennessee Titans | Sunday, December 15, 2024
Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are heading to Tennessee this weekend, looking for their second consecutive win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Before their win over the Cowboys in Week 14, ESPN's Seth Walder estimated a Bengals win to result in a 3% chance for them to make the playoffs. Sitting at 5-8, third in the AFC North, the Bengals have no shot at winning the division but can still aim for a coveted wildcard spot. The Titans are fighting for nothing more than respect or to spoil the Bengals season, as Tennessee has been eliminated from playoff contention, with a 3-10 record, and is fourth in the AFC South.
While the Bengals will be on the road this weekend, it seems that's where they play better. Joe Burrow and Cincinnati have a home record this season of just 1-5 while going an impressive 4-3 in away games. The Titans have also struggled at home, boasting a 1-5 record at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The Cincinnati passing attack is what has kept this team afloat this season, led by receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who leads all receivers in the NFL in receiving yards (1319), receptions (93), and touchdowns (15). The Bengals lead the NFL in passing yards per game with 271.6, in an offense that averages an impressive 3.4 touchdowns a game, fourth most in the NFL.
Where the Bengals have struggled immensely is on the defensive side of the ball. The Bengals allow 3.3 touchdowns per game, the second-worst in the league, and allow a red zone touchdown percentage of 66.67%. They also allow 365.5 yards of total offense per game, ranking 26th in the NFL, and have struggled immensely to threaten opposing quarterbacks, with the second-lowest sack percentage in the NFL at just 5.18%. This Sunday, the Bengals will have a great chance at improving those numbers, as they will line up against one of the worst offensive lines in the league in Tennessee, who allows their quarterback to get sacked at the second-highest rate in the NFL, with a QB sack percentage of 10.09%.
The quarterback they'll (potentially) be attacking is Will Levis, who has had one of the worst seasons of any quarterback in the NFL in 2024. Levis is 28th in passing yards with 1,827, throwing just 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. To add insult to injury, he ranks 32nd in QBR, with a rating of 30.5. Although Levis is currently listed as the starter because of a shoulder injury he has been fighting, there is a chance we see Mason Rudolph get the start instead, who some believe has a better chance at getting a win for the Titans, currently on a two-game losing streak.
Regardless of who starts for the Titan's offense, their defense will need to play at a high level if they want any shot at a win. Tennessee limited the Jaguars to just ten points in the week 14 loss, including holding Jacksonville scoreless through the first three quarters. That being said, they'll probably need a miracle to slow down Burrow, Chase, and this electric Bengals offense.
