The Buffalo Bills have already clinched the AFC East for the fifth consecutive season and are now fighting for the top seed in the AFC. They'll have their toughest matchup of the season this Sunday as they travel to Detroit to take on Jared Goff and the Lions. Detroit holds the longest win streak in the NFL with eleven straight wins and has already clinched their second consecutive playoff berth in the NFC. While there are still plenty of weeks left in this season, this heavyweight matchup could be a preview of what's to come in February.

Jared Goff and the Detroit offense have been terrifying in 2024, leading the NFL in points per game with 32.1, putting them in a spot where most offenses just cannot catch up, week in and week out. The Lions have the second most yards per game in the NFL with 394.8 and also boast the highest completion percentage, completing 72.52% of their passes. Goff has thrown 25 touchdowns in 2024, fifth most amongst quarterbacks, and just ten interceptions.

But what makes this offense so elite is their versatility. Not only does Detroit have one of the best passing attacks in the NFL with Amon-Ra St. Brown, but they also arguably have the best backfield duo in the NFL, with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. The Lions love to run the ball, ranking top five in rushes per game (32.5), rushing yards per game (151.1), and rushing touchdowns per game (1.7).

The Lions' defense has paired nicely with their explosive offense, holding opponents to just 18 points per game, which is second-best in the league. Hitting that mark this weekend is going to be incredibly difficult though, with the expected MVP, Josh Allen, coming into town.

While Detroit is the best-scoring team in the NFL, Allen and the Bills are a close second, scoring 30.5 points per game. Buffalo scores touchdowns on 68.52% of their red zone drives, and their 355 yards of offense per game ranks tenth in the league. Like the Lions, they can attack you in multiple different ways, and their offensive line is a big reason why, giving up a quarterback sack rate of just 3.17%, which is the best in the league.

While there's no question that both of these offenses are able to move the ball and generate points, this game is going to be about which defense can limit it. The Bills allow 20.6 points per game, the eighth-best in the NFL, while the Lions allow just 18, the second-best in the NFL. If the Lions want to secure their 12th straight win, they'll need their secondary to step up big time, as they currently allow over 224 passing yards per game. That does not bode well for when you have to face Josh Allen.
