Cleveland Browns @ Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders will host Cleveland this weekend, with both teams 1-2 and looking to quickly get back to .500. The Raiders are at risk of missing defensive end Maxx Crosby, who has not yet practiced this week with an ankle injury, while offensive tackle Thayer Munford has also missed practice.
There was rumor of a quarterback change with the Raiders this week, after Gardner Minshew was sat down in the second half against the disappointing loss to the Carolina Panthers at the weekend.
As of right now, he is still the starter, but his seat is certainly warm after a shaky start to the year. While that may be true, the franchise has not exactly set him up for success, with the worst run game in football by a considerable distance.
Their refusal to pay Josh Jacobs landed him in Green Bay, and the running back group now set in Vegas doesn’t have a single proven starter within its ranks. Zamir White had 10 carries for 34 yards against Carolina, but is yet to score this season, and has only 101 total yards in three games played.
The Raiders rank 32nd, dead last in the NFL, in rushing yards per game (51), total rushes per game (18.3), yards per rush (2.8), and rushing yard percentage (30%). In short, their run game isn’t good, they don’t trust it, and they have to abandon it quickly in games.
They’re throwing the football more than any other team, with their 244.7 passing yards per game ranking 4th. Gardner Minshew could get the offense back on track this week against the Browns, who may also be without their elite pass rusher.
Myles Garrett limped off the field in Week 3 with support, while currently dealing with injuries to both of his feet. He’s yet to practice in full this week, and both tackles have also been sitting out. Jack Conklin has a hamstring issue and is yet to play this season, and on the other side Jedrick Wills has been out with a knee, having only played part time in one game so far, this past weekend against the Giants.
The Browns offense is still not clicking, and they don’t run the ball well either. They’re posting 95.7 yards per game (24th), while only running the football 33% of the time (30th).
As an offense, the Browns are putting up 248 yards per game (31st), with 3.8 yards per play (also 31st), a horrific 18% third down conversion percentage, which is the league's worst by far, and their 57.8% completion percentage also ranks 30th.
Deshaun Watson really still has it all to prove. The fans are not convinced, and last weekend he came away with the loss between two struggling offenses. This weekend he’s in a similar situation, and can’t afford to lose again.
