The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to MetLife Stadium this weekend and look to snap a four-game losing streak in an NFC matchup against the New York Giants. The Buccaneers had a hot 2-0 start to the season but have since gone 2-6 and are still somehow second in the depleted NFC South. The Giants have had a much less fortunate season, sitting dead last in the NFC East with a record of 2-8. While the Giants' playoff hopes are dead, the Buccaneers certainly have something to fight for, just two games behind the first-place Falcons in their division.
Tampa Bay enters Week 12 after a bye week, now two weeks removed from a heartbreaking loss to Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers. In that 23-20 Week 10 loss, Baker Mayfield threw for just 116 yards and one touchdown—the lowest amount of passing yards for him this season. While the Buccaneers only have four wins this season, Mayfield has thrown 24 touchdowns, third-most in the NFL, and the Tampa Bay passing game is still showing some signs of life. The absence of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin has made it much more difficult for Mayfield, and the Bucs have had to rely on guys like Cade Otton and Sterling Shepard.
Tampa Bay is still 10th in the NFL in passing yards per game at 236.2 and has the second-best completion percentage in the league at 70.64%. Their backfield duo of Bucky Irving and Rachaad White has been solid, as the team averages five yards per rush, fifth-best in the entire league. Where the Bucs have fallen short is on defense, allowing 26.6 points per game and nearly 390 yards per game to opposing offenses. They allow the third-most passing yards per game at 264.1 and give up 4.8 yards per rush, ranking 28th in the NFL.
They'll have a chance to right the ship this weekend against a New York Giants offense that could be historically bad. The Giants are currently dead last in the NFL in a variety of categories, such as touchdowns per game (1.6), points per game (15.6), and red zone scoring percentage (39.29%). To make matters worse, the Giants announced earlier this week that they will be benching quarterback Daniel Jones for backup Tommy DeVito, who has yet to take a single snap this season. While, in time, the second-year quarterback may be a better fit for a struggling Giants offense, it's hard to believe everything will click in his first start of the season.
As expected, the Bucs will enter this one as favorites on the road as they continue their hunt for a playoff spot in a wide-open NFC South.
