BYU vs TEXAS TECH – AT&T STADIUM – ARLINGTON, TX – 12PM EDT SATURDAY
We got a banger in Jerry’s World on Saturday for the Big 12 championship between BYU and Texas Tech. BYU 11-1 on the year with their only loss coming against the team they play here in Texas Tech. Texas Tech is 11-1 as well with their only loss coming against Arizona State. Texas Tech’s lone loss this year is somewhat misleading as they were missing their quarterback Behren Morton for that game and had to start a true freshman in Will Hammond. Despite that game, Texas Tech has been dominating their competition all season long averaging 41 PPG and only allowing 11 PPG. BYU has been strong all season long as well averaging 31 PPG and allowing 19 PPG to their opponents. Both teams are very run oriented this season but Texas Tech has a big edge when it comes to the rush defenses only allowing 2.4 YPC rushing (2nd in the country) and 71 rushing YPG (1st in the country) to their opponents vs BYU who allows 4.4 YPC rushing (55th in the country) and 119 rushing YPG (38th in the country). These teams met back on November 8th in Lubbock, Texas with Texas Tech dominating BYU 29-7 as 13.5 pt favorites holding BYU to 255 total yards and outgaining them by 113 yards. The line for this game is virtually identical to the previous matchup but now its at a neutral field giving the indication the same expected outcome should occur. Texas Tech is 9-0 ATS as a double digit favorite this season and they are 11-1 ATS overall. Both teams should be motivated to play here so I don’t expect either side to go easy on the other to prep for the playoffs. BYU needs this game to get in the playoff but double digit dogs in conference championships are 5-11 ATS since 2019. Look for Texas Tech to win by margin.
