CAVALIERS @ CELTICS 10/29/25
On Wednesday night, Donovan Mitchell will try to guide the Cleveland Cavaliers to their fourth consecutive victory when they travel to the Boston Celtics.
Cleveland has defeated Brooklyn 131-124, Milwaukee 118-113, and Detroit 116-95 since losing to New York 119-111 to start the season. Mitchell scored at least 31 points in three of the four games and led the team in scoring in all four.
"I think he's underrated," Kenny Atkinson, the coach of Cleveland, stated. "NBA First Team. I'm not sure why he isn't discussed more. Most likely because he is modest, low-key, and uncontroversial. Does that imply that your personality makes you underappreciated? I'm not sure."
The Cavaliers rested Lonzo Ball because Monday's win over Detroit was Cleveland's second straight game. Max Strus (foot) and Darius Garland (big toe) are still sidelined for Cleveland due to offseason surgery, and Sam Merrill was sidelined for the rest of the game Monday after suffering a right hip contusion in the third quarter.
According to Atkinson, "He's hurting," "It hurts when Sam is unable to return to the game. In my opinion, Evan (Mobley) struck him in the hip. It appears to be a hip pointer. Those hurt. Let's see.
"I do believe that until Max and DG (Garland) return, we must rely on our defense. We will need to use some lineups that aren't flawless on offense.
Against the Pistons, De'Andre Hunter recorded a career-high six assists and held Cade Cunningham to 12 points on 3-of-14 field goals. Hunter sustained a right knee contusion in the Cavaliers' final preseason game, which kept him out of Cleveland's first two regular-season games.
According to Mitchell, "you're starting to see it," "He is attracting men from all over the court. He's on the boards. We are all aware of his scoring prowess. It's clear that he has the most assists of his career. We benefit from the fact that he is doing all the little things that are required to make him so dynamic.
The Celtics defeated host New Orleans 122-90 on Monday to earn their first win of the season after a 0–3 start. Boston's best offseason acquisition, Anfernee Simons, scored a team-high 25 points after coming off the bench. Six 3-pointers were made by him.
When Simons said, "It's been for sure a transition, but I've been enjoying it," after the victory. "I'm just asking about another aspect of myself. I've been making a daily effort to get better at the things I need to do to help the team win. Learning from every game has undoubtedly been enjoyable. Seeing what you can improve on in the next game. Be more aggressive, perhaps.
Jaylen Brown of Boston has been battling a sore hamstring. The injury happened during the last preseason game for Boston. In Monday's victory, Boston's second in as many days, he scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Brown is scoring 29.7 points per game on average, which is a team high.
"Tough turnaround," said Brown. "That's a difficult way to begin the season—from Detroit to New Orleans. It's okay, though. Strong bones are the result of adversity. I'm eager to take on the year's challenges. It won't get any simpler. It will only become more difficult. Simply be prepared.

DONOVAN MITCHELL OVER 29.5 POINTS
Mitchell is off to a strong start this season. He’s averaging 31.3 points per game so far and he’s scored at least 31 points in 3 of the Cavs 4 games. He’s also played very well against the Celtics historically. In his last four games against Boston, Mitchell has scored 35, 35, 31, and 41. All of those, of course, Over tonight’s number. Boston plays very good defense, but one thing they don’t do well is defend opposing point guards. They rank 21st in the NBA this season in point guard defense.
