CELTICS @ SPURS 3/29/25
When the Boston Celtics play the host San Antonio Spurs on Saturday in a late-season interconference game, they hope to maintain their slim hopes of having the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics (54-19), who won 132-102 in Phoenix on Wednesday, are on a seven-game winning streak going into San Antonio. In the win over the Suns, Jaylen Brown scored 24 points and Kristaps Porzingis scored 30 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Jayson Tatum missed the game due to a sprained left ankle. Derrick White and Jrue Holiday each scored 16 points, and Al Horford contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics. Boston has won the first four games of a six-game road trip that ends Monday in Memphis, and it has won 12 of its last 13 games. With a league-best road record of 30-7, the reigning NBA champion Celtics have won 14 of their last 15 away games.
With nine games remaining, the Celtics are eight and a half games ahead of New York for the Atlantic Division title and five games behind Cleveland for the best record in the Eastern Conference. Brown is still recovering from a knee injury that prevented him from playing in three games last week. Brown's performance on Wednesday and his general toughness were commended by Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla.
After losing 124-116 in Cleveland on Thursday, the Spurs (31-41) return to the Alamo City. Stephon Castle's three-pointer with 6:25 remaining gave San Antonio a two-point lead, but the team was unable to maintain that margin and lost its second consecutive game after falling behind by as many as 16 points in the second quarter and three going into the final period.
With 22 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, Castle was San Antonio's top scorer. The Spurs also got 22 points from Devin Vassell, 17 points and 10 rebounds from Keldon Johnson, 16 points from Julian Champagnie, and 13 points from Jeremy Sochan.
San Antonio is now four games out of the West play-in tournament. The Spurs are four games behind Dallas, who is in the tenth and final place for the play-in. The Spurs would have to pass Dallas, Phoenix, and Portland over their final 10 games of the season in order to earn a playoff spot. The Spurs will play five of those games at home.
