CINCINNATI @ ST. LOUIS (CIN -120, 7.5)
ABBOTT TRIFECTA: REDS F5, REDS F5 ML, ANDREW ABBOTT UNDER 2.5 EARNED RUNS
Andrew Abbott gets the start for Cincinnati tonight. He has some good numbers - 9-6 with a 2.79 ERA for the season. He has struggled recently though, with most of his worst starts coming since the beginning of August. His ERA since Aug. 1 is 4.39.
However, he did have a great start last time out. Abbott pitched a full 8 innings, allowed just 5 hits, and one earned run in a win over the San Diego Padres. The numbers suggest that Abbott is on track to pitch well again tonight against a team he has faced three times already this season. The Reds won two of those games and Abbott pitched 16 innings and allowed just 3 ER (1.68 ERA).
Now, in Abbott's 26 starts this season, the Reds are 15-11 on the moneyline. They are also 15-8-3 on the F5 moneyline and Abbott has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 19 of those 26 starts. This is something I like to call the Abbott Trifecta. When he starts, the Reds typically win the F5, win the game, and Abbott allows 2 ER or less. In fact, if you had bet all three of these every time Abbott started a game this season, you would 49-26-3. That's a win percentage of 65.3 percent.
St. Louis is 1-6 in its last 7 games and the Reds are a half-game behind Arizona and 1.5 games behind the Mets in the race for the final National League wild card spot. Pick one, pick two, or pick all three of the Abbott Trifecta tonight as the Reds look to take Game 2 of this series.
