Robbie Ray starts for the Giants and it's hard to pick against him. He's 10-6 with a 3.31 ERA this season and the Giants have won each of his last four starts. However, Ray was fortunate in his last two starts. He gave up a total of 11 runs, 10 earned, but the Giants would come back in both games to score in double digits and eventually win both games.
Ray does have decent numbers against Arizona hitters, but the DBacks have been hitting lefties all season long. Over the last 30 days, Arizona is hitting .277 (4th) vs. LHP. The Diamondbacks are also third in both OPS (.837) and SLG (.492) against southpaws.
Zac Gallen starts for Arizona and, while he's struggled over the course of the season, he has pitched extremely well as of late. He has four straight quality starts and he's pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 0 ER in each of his last two.
If you go back to the beginning of August, Gallen has 7 starts. He is 4-1 with a 2.19 ERA. In his last five starts against the Giants, Gallen is 4-1 with a 3.41 ERA. That includes a start on July 1 of this season. Gallen pitched 7 innings, struck out 10, allowed just 1 ER, and the DBacks won the game 8-2.
