This is an interesting matchup with a ton of angles. It's an NFC North Division game. The Vikings won both games last season and have won 7 of the last 8 in the series. Minnesota has also won the last five times that they visited Soldier Field.
There is the whole debut of both Ben Johnson, the new head coach of the Bears, and J.J. McCarthy, the quarterback of the Vikings. McCarthy injured a knee a missed all of last season. Johnson led the NFL's best offense - Detroit - over the last two seasons.
Then, there's the Ben Johnson versus Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian Flores thing. Johnson has averaged over 30 points per game against Flores-led defenses over the past two seasons. That, of course, was when Johnson was the offensive coordinator for the Lions.
Chicago QB Caleb Williams is looking to make that all-important Year 2 leap. Johnson appears to be the guy who can help him get there. But, don't sleep on Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, a former NFL QB himself. He and McCarthy can do enough to help the Vikings get on the board early in this game.
In what should be a relatively lower-scoring game, these two teams both find a way to score early.
