COMMANDERS @ EAGLES 11/14/24

Forget the brief practice week. By Monday, Dan Quinn was prepared to guide his Washington Commanders into their NFC East matchup in Philadelphia on Thursday night. The first-year coach was fired up as his team prepared to face the Eagles with the winner taking control of the division.

Following Philadelphia's crushing of Dallas and Washington's thrilling loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday, the Eagles (7-2) have a five-game winning streak and have surpassed the Commanders (7-3) for first place in the division.

Nick Sirianni, the coach of the Eagles, was less excited about the prime-time game and described the short turnaround Thursday night games as "a pain in the butt to prepare for" in his press conference on Monday. Philadelphia scored 27 consecutive points in a 34-6 victory over the Cowboys, demonstrating that they were prepared for a Dallas team without Dak Prescott.

After overcoming two turnovers and scoring four touchdowns (two rushing and two passing), Jalen Hurts rested with many of the starting players in the fourth quarter. The Eagles allowed 280 yards or less for the fifth consecutive game as the defense gathered five takeaways and held the Cowboys to 146 total yards of offense.

As Week 11 begins, the Philadelphia defense is tied for fifth place in the NFL in terms of points allowed (17.9 per game) and second in terms of yards allowed (274.1 per game). The Philadelphia defense will be put to the test by a rookie quarterback who "arrived." Through his ten starts, Jayden Daniels, the second overall pick, has completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 2,147 yards, nine touchdowns, and just two interceptions. He has also gained 464 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

With 29.0 points per game and 377.0 yards per game, the Washington offense is tied for third place in the NFL. The Commanders lost to the Steelers after Russell Wilson's 32-yard touchdown pass to new teammate Mike Williams with 2:22 remaining put them behind 10 points in the second half. Although the loss was painful, right guard Sam Cosmi spoke to the Commanders in the locker room following the game to make sure it didn't linger.

Including season sweeps in 2021 and 2023, Philadelphia has won five of the previous six meetings. Jordan Mailata, the Eagles' starting left tackle (hamstring), returned to practice this week. Both tight end Dallas Goedert and cornerback Darius Slay are battling ankle injuries. Along with receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dean (groin), they were limited during Tuesday's practice.

Marshon Lattimore, a recently acquired cornerback, missed Tuesday's Commanders practice due to hamstring strain. The defensive end, center Tyler Biadasz (ribs, thumb, foot), right tackle Andrew Wylie (shoulder), left tackle Brandon Coleman (shoulder), and running back Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) have all missed the last two games and played sparingly.

JAYDEN DANIELS UNDER 226.5 PASSING YARDS

The Steelers defense is one of the best in the NFL. Pittsburgh proved to be kryptonite to Daniels, holding him to 202 passing yards on 17-of-34 passing. Philly’s pass defense is right there with Pittsburgh’s. The Eagles have allowed the fewest yards per pass attempt this season. They also have the fourth-lowest completion percentage by opposing quarterbacks. The Eagles pass rush win rate ranks 10th and, in their last five games, Philly has held four opponents to 155 passing yards or fewer. The only QB to go Over 200 yards was Joe Burrow and he didn’t clear 226.5 (222).
