Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots
I won’t lie, this one is ugly. The Miami Dolphins seemed to be struggling even before Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion, and they have been pretty much unwatchable ever since. Their 11.3 points per game rank dead last in the NFL, which reflects a team that is struggling to do anything without their starting quarterback. It is so messy that people are now starting to doubt Mike McDaniel’s ability as a head coach, pointing to the fact that he has a 1-6 record without Tua.
It’s not much prettier over in New England, who rank 31st in points scored this year, averaging 13 per game. Their total of 238.8 yards per game is dead last, which suggests this could be a frustrating watch for everyone involved. In reality, New England is already in survival mode, simply trying to get to the end of the season. They have the future of their franchise waiting on the sidelines in third overall pick Drake Maye, but they are not in a position to play him just yet because of the awful state of their offensive line.
They are at least seeing occasional flashes of brilliance from second-round rookie wide receiver Ja'lynn Polk, but there is very little else to be excited about. Starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson is clearly the best playmaker on offense, but he has now fumbled in every single game this year, and with Jacoby Brissett passing for just 536 yards and two touchdowns, it is hard to see where the points are going to come from.
The defense has been sturdy enough, but with zero support from the offense, it’s always only just a matter of time before they get broken down. In theory, Miami has an offensive arsenal of playmakers that should completely overwhelm New England, but a Tua-less quarterback room has so far proven completely useless at feeding them the ball. This is where the frustration surrounding Mike McDaniel as head coach is coming from. Despite not having his starting quarterback under center, you’d have thought he would have found a way to put up points with De’Von Achane, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle at his disposal. The fans will be hoping he can find a solution soon because this has been an absolutely dire way to start the season. A loss to the woeful New England Patriots could send the fan base into chaos.
