Kevin Durant is making his return to the court after missing three games due to a sprained left ankle he suffered in a Feb. 3 game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Suns ended up losing that game 121-119 in overtime.
The Suns had only one win from the three games Durant missed, and they are currently 2-11 when Durant is on the bench. Durant addressed the media on Monday for the first time since the passing of the trade deadline on Thursday. Speculations about Durant being moved were in the air, however, the Suns decided to hold on to the 15-time All-Star.
Durant is just 26 points shy of becoming the eighth NBA player to score 30,000 career points. For Durant, there is no sign of the 36-year-old forward stopping any time soon. Despite having a so-so performance in 2024-25 with a .500 record, the Suns decided to keep their Big Three of Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal intact.
Durant, unshaken by the trade rumors, claimed that it's simply a part of the game. Dealing with the injury and returning to the game he loves takes precedence for him. Beal, however, will miss his third consecutive game due to a left big toe injury. Grayson Allen is questionable but should be good to go after his knee injury.
Booker has been on a roll, scoring more than 30 points in four out of the last six games He had a season-high 47 points to go along with 11 assists in the Suns’ 135-127 win over Utah Jazz on Friday.
On the other hand, the Grizzlies, currently second in the Western Conference, had 10 wins in the last 11 games before losing 125-112 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.
The Grizzlies had a 117-112 victory over the Suns in their last meeting on Dec. 31. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane scored 38 and 31 points respectively, while Durant scored 29 points for the Suns.
