IOWA vs USC – LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL COLISEUM – LOS ANGELES, CA – 3:30PM EDT
We have an underrated BIG10 matchup on Saturday between Iowa and USC in Los Angeles, CA. Iowa is 6-3 on the year and off a hard fought loss vs a Top 10 team in Oregon in Kinnick Stadium. USC is off back to back wins including a Friday win over Northwestern so they get the benefit of an extra day of rest and on the 2nd leg of a 2 game home span. USC has been explosive on the offensive side of the ball and dominating opponents in the Coliseum with a +30 point differential and putting up 49 PPG there this year. This will be Iowa’s 4th road game of the year and they have done well with a +14 pt differential but their road games were Rutgers, Wisconsin and Iowa St. Those games aren’t west coast travel games. While Iowa’s defense is ranked in the Top 5 in opponent scoring, 4th in opponent YPG and 7th in opponent YPP, this is a tough road travel spot coming off a 3 game home stretch which includes a bye week and really haven’t faced a USC offense to this caliber on the road yet. Iowa typically plays low total games in the 30s to low 40s but this total is in the high 40s which correlates to the books believing USC will score points here. I do believe that will be the case here but I also believe that Iowa will score points as well as Iowa is a rushing offense and USC struggles stopping the run. They gave up 7 YPC to Notre Dame, 4.7 YPC to Nebraska and 5.2 YPC to Northwestern in their last 3 games. Iowa is 2-1 to the OVER this season when the total is 45 or more vs FBS opponents this year and USC is 4-1 to the OVER at home this season. To me, I think both teams will score in bunches on Saturday so give me the OVER as the play.
