Jaguars vs Titans
The Jacksonville Jaguars will travel to Nissan Stadium this Sunday for an AFC South matchup against the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars are tied for an NFL worst record of 2-10 this season, which means most Jacksonville fans are already looking towards the 2025 NFL draft. The Titans are in a similar boat, sitting just one game ahead of the Jaguars in the AFC South standings. While there won't be any playoff implications in this game, there are some draft implications, with both teams potentially fighting for the first overall pick.
The Jaguars are riding a five-game losing streak, their most recent loss being a three-point defeat that came against the playoff-hopeful Houston Texans. While taking their tenth loss on the season was a big enough blow, they also lost their starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence took a massive hit from Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair in the second quarter and missed the remainder of the game. Lawrence left the game with a concussion and has since been put on IR, all but ending his season.
That injury hands the keys of the offense back over to Mac Jones, who has a QBR of just 28.1 this season, throwing for two touchdowns and three interceptions in five appearances. The rest of the Jacksonville offense has been just as disappointing, as the Jaguars average 297.7 yards a game this season, 28th in the NFL. They also average just 19 points per game and are second-worst in the league at converting third downs at just a 32.09% success rate.
Crazy enough, the Jacksonville defense is even worse than its offense. They allow over 28 points per game, fourth worst in the entire league, and come in dead last at yards per game allowed, at 406.4. They allow the most passing yards per game in the NFL, 273.3, and the most yards per pass, 8.4.
Luckily for the Jaguars, they'll be facing one of the NFL's worst offenses, led by quarterback Will Levis. The Titans rank 30th in passing yards per game, with just 185.9, and Levis has thrown for just 1,659 yards this season, 29th among quarterbacks. His 12 touchdowns are paired with an ugly nine interceptions to produce a QBR of just 32.9 on the season, although he has shown flashes of improvements in recent weeks. Luckily for Levis and the Titan's offense, their defense has played fairly well, especially defending the pass.
Mac Jones and the Jaguars receivers will be facing one of the best secondaries in the league. The Titans have only allowed 171.8 passing yards per game, the best in the NFL. They've held opposing quarterbacks to a modest completion percentage of 65.41% and allowed 6.5 yards per pass, second-best among NFL defenses.
While no one in this matchup will be sealing their tickets to the postseason with a win, it will be an excellent chance for young quarterbacks to get some great experience and build confidence. And soon enough, we'll look back and see just how important this game really was in terms of the 2025 draft.
