The Colorado State Rams and Utah State Aggies will square off in a Mountain West game tonight at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Rams have a 12-7 win-loss record going into tonight's game, which includes an 8-3 record at home and a 3-5 record in conference play. The Rams have recently lost against Boise State, Fresno State, and the Virginia Tech Hokies, but they have also won against Air Force, UNLV, Colorado, and the South Florida Bulls.

Earlier in the season, these two clubs faced off and Utah State absolutely hammered the Rams 100-58. Colorado State forward Carey Booth finished with 14 points (4 of 5 from the field), 2 rebounds, and 1 block in just 20 minutes of action. The Aggies had six players finish in double figures, led by Maison Falslev’s 18 points.

Colorado State averages 77.3 points per game on 49.4 percent field goal shooting (21st in the country) and 41.2 percent three-point shooting. CSU ranks third in the nation in three-point shooting percentage. The Rams' defense gives up 72.2 points per game.

The Rams are led by junior guard Brandon Rechsteiner, who averages 12.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per contest. Kyle Jorgensen, a sophomore forward, averages 12.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and one steal a game. Josh Pascarelli, a junior guard who averages 12.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, adds even more steadiness to the backcourt.

Utah State has a 15-3 record going into tonight’s game. That includes a 6-2 record in conference play and a 4-2 record away from home. While losing recent games to UNLV and Grand Canyon, Utah State has won games over Nevada, Boise State, Fresno State, and the Air Force Falcons.

The  Aggies are averaging 83.3 points per game (49th in the nation) on 50.6 percent field goal shooting (12th in the country) and 35.7 percent three-point shooting. Like CSU, Utah State is a top-10 team in terms of eFG% (58.5%). The Aggies are giving up 69.6 points per game on defense.

Utah State is led by senior guard MJ Collins Jr., who averages 19.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per contest. Mason Falslev, a junior guard, contributes 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.4 steals every game. Garry Clark, a senior forward, averages 8.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest.

Colorado State has had defensive difficulties in conference play this season. Utah State’s offense is very efficient and the Aggies have the rebounding advantage. Colorado State has struggled against top-tier Mountain West opponents. The big question will be whether or not the Rams can hit their threes. CSU only hit 7 threes in the first game against the Aggies. The Rams average 10.5 made threes per game.

Utah State is 15-3 overall and 6-2 in Mountain West play. They are coming off two straight losses and while everyone will be talking about the 100-58 Aggies win earlier this season and now CSU is at home, we’re not falling for it. The Aggies are better and more consistent. Utah State is 25th in Adj. Offensive Efficiency and 61st in Adj. Defensive Efficiency. They force turnovers - 30th in TO per game (15.1) and 13th in steals per game (9.7). Playing at altitude at CSU presents a challenge, but the Aggies are 14-2 as a favorite while CSU is just 2-4 as an underdog. The difference is likely the CSU defense which ranks 305th in 2PT FG% and 289th in overall FG%. They just won’t be able to slow down a very good Utah State offense.
