COLLEGE BASKETBALL
BUTLER @ GEORGETOWN (GTOWN -3, 139.5)
OVER 139.5
We are back after our early week Disney trip and fresh off a 4-2 night on our Best Bets. Tonight's a smaller college basketball card, but there is plenty of value. It's the total in this Big East battle where we'll find one of tonight's plays.
Georgetown scored just 41 points in its last game, a 66-41 loss to St. John's. The Hoyas haven't scored 70 points or more in a game since late December. Butler defends the three very well, but they are not good on the interior. That is where Georgetown gets its points. The Hoyas should be able to get very close to their season average of 71 ppg tonight.
Butler scores 73 ppg and they are the opposite of Georgetown. They shoot a ton of threes. The Hoyas defense is strong on the interior but does rank outside the top 150 in terms of defending the three-pointer. Each of Butler's last 6 games has gone Over the total and a lot of that has to do with the Bulldogs defense giving up 72 ppg. I think both teams can get into the 70s (or at least very close) tonight.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
DARTMOUTH @ CORNELL (COR -10.5, 163.5)
CORNELL TEAM TOTAL OVER 84.5
If you haven't followed any Ivy League basketball this season, Cornell is the fourth-highest scoring team in the country. The Big Red average 86.5 ppg. They are the best shooting team in the country. Cornell shoots 51.5 percent from the floor overall. The Big Red is also the top shooting 2PT FG team in the nation, hitting 64.2 percent of all shots inside the arc.
Dartmouth is 2-2 in Ivy League play. The Big Green ranks 246th or worse in scoring defense, opponent FG percentage and opponent 2PT FG percentage. Dartmouth has been known to give up some points. Cornell averages over 87 points a game at home and the Big Red has scored 85, 82, 86, and 94 points in its four Ivy League games thus far.
In their last two games against Dartmouth at home, Cornell rolled to big wins with point totals of 89 and 95 points. Cornell plays fast - 48th in the nation in possessions per game - and I like another big night from the Big Red.
