Dan Monson, long-time head coach at Long Beach State, takes over at Eastern Washington and that program is going to be one to watch this season. The Eagles opened the season with a surprise of sorts as they were within striking distance of No. 12 UCLA. EWU ended up losing 80-74, but covering the 29.5-point spread.
Monson's teams at LBSU were known for playing a tough, physical aggressive type of game. You'll see that tonight too against Loyola-Marymount, a 137-54 winner in its opener against Lincoln (CA) University. Lincoln is an independent that plays everyone from NCAA Division I to NAIA teams.
Eastern Washington lost leading returning scorer Andrew Cook in the preseason. It makes sense for the Eagles to slow the game down. Don't be surprised if this game goes Under the total. With fewer possessions and an aggressive EWU frontcourt on both ends of the floor, back the road underdog.
