FLYERS @ RAMS 2/6/26

The Atlantic 10 takes center stage tonight as the Dayton Flyers travel to the Stuart C. Siegel Center to face the surging VCU Rams. This is a high-stakes matchup between two teams vying for position at the top of the conference standings. VCU enters this contest on a blistering six-game winning streak, while Dayton is looking to build momentum after a gritty 72-70 victory over St. Bonaventure.

VCU is currently one of the hottest teams in the A-10, having won six straight games. Their success is built on a balanced offensive attack and a defense that ranks 84th nationally in Adjusted Efficiency (104.5). The Rams are particularly dangerous from the perimeter, ranking 72nd in three-point shot rate. This aligns perfectly with a major Dayton weakness: the Flyers rank 292nd in opponent three-point field goal percentage, allowing teams to shoot 36% from deep.

Lazar Djokovic has been a force for the Rams, recently leading the team with 17 points and 4 rebounds in their win over Fordham. VCU also holds a significant advantage on the offensive glass, ranking 63rd in offensive rebound percentage (33.1%). This ability to create second-chance opportunities could be the deciding factor against a Dayton team that ranks 302nd in offensive rebounding.

While Dayton features arguably the best individual player on the floor in Javon Bennett (16.1 PPG, 3.2 APG), the team has struggled with consistency away from home. The Flyers' effective field goal percentage (eFG%) drops by 5.2% when playing on the road. Bennett is coming off a 20-point performance, but he will need significant help from Jordan Derkack and Amael L’Etang to keep pace with VCU's scoring.

Dayton's primary path to victory lies in their defensive pressure. They rank 3rd in the country in defensive turnover percentage, which could disrupt a VCU offense that can occasionally be prone to giveaways (16.1% TO% rank 110th). However, Dayton's lack of size and rebounding (288th in offensive rebounding) makes them vulnerable if their initial shots aren't falling.

The narrative surrounding this game is VCU's quest for the top of the A-10. They are currently tied for second place, just two games behind Saint Louis. A win tonight further solidifies their resume for March. Conversely, Dayton is trying to overcome a recent 1-4 stretch where they allowed 70+ points in four consecutive games.

Injury reports indicate that Dayton will be without Jaron McKie (Shoulder), while Jaiun Simon is questionable. For VCU, Christian Fermin is out due to personal reasons. The loss of McKie hurts Dayton's depth, putting even more pressure on Bennett to carry the offensive load in a hostile road environment.

There is a statistical mismatch between VCU’s three-point shooting and Dayton’s perimeter defense that is too significant to ignore. VCU’s dominance on the offensive glass should provide them with plenty of extra possessions, especially considering Dayton's offensive dip on the road. While Dayton's defense is elite at forcing turnovers, keep in mind that VCU is at home and they’ve won six straight.

FREE PICK: VCU -6.5

You can still get this at -6.5 at -121 at BetRivers. VCU is on one. Six straight wins. The Rams offense scores 83.4 ppg and will give Dayton fits with its barrage of three-pointers. Dayton’s perimeter defense is soft and ranks 316th in the country against the three. Dayton is just 1-4 SU and 0-5 ATS in its last five games. The Siegel Center is a tough place to play. VCU is 11-2 at home this season and they always seem to play well on Fridays. VCU is 12-4 SU in its last 16 games on a Friday
