These are two teams that are just highly inefficient. Plus, this spread opened with Cal as a 12.5-point favorite. That numbers has been bet down to 8.5. With the low total here and the spread over a touchdown, there is value on the Tar Heels...even though they're awful.
Both teams are coming off a bye. Whether that helps or not we'll see, but Cal under head coach Justin Wilcox has been horrible in their first game back after a bye. They are 3-10 SU after a bye week.
The Bears also struggle when favored at home. Under Wilcox, who took over the program in 2017, Cal is 10-18-1 ATS as a home favorite. They were favored by 14 earlier this season against San Diego State. The Aztecs came to town and stomped Cal, 34-0.
The total opened at 48.5 and is now down to 46.5 at some books. UNC's offense has averaged 11 points per game in three games against Power 4 opponents. Head coach Bill Belichick will go with Max Johnson at quarterback tonight in place of Gio Lopez.
North Carolina's defense has had some issues giving up points, but Cal's offense has been hit or miss. Freshman QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has thrown six interceptions in his last two games.
There is also rain in the forecast which will slow down both offenses and keep this game close. You probably want to take a look at the Under in this game too.
