SOUTH CAROLINA @ OLE MISS

On paper, No. 7 Ole Miss should easily defeat South Carolina when they visit Oxford, Mississippi, tonight. The Rebels are 4-1 in the SEC and 7-1 overall after defeating then-No. 13 Oklahoma 34-26 last week. If they play well in their final four regular season games, they should be able to qualify for the College Football Playoffs.

However, you probably don't want to tell Rebels coach Lane Kiffin that his team began the week as a 12.5-point favorite against the Gamecocks (3-5, 1-5).

"Very, very talented and dangerous team that we're playing, and one that had Alabama beat all the way until the end of the game," Kiffin stated. "You see every week around the country but especially in this conference, how hard the games are."

Last week, South Carolina lost to No. 4 Alabama in a game that could have saved the season. The Gamecocks lost 29-22 after giving up a 22-14 lead in the final 2:16 of the game. This is their third consecutive loss and puts the team's chances of even making a minor bowl bid in jeopardy.

After a bye week, the Gamecocks will travel to No. 3 Texas A&M. They need to find a way to defeat a Top 10 team on the road, or their season, which began with them in 13th place, will come to an end following their rivalry matchup with Clemson on Nov. 29.

Shane Beamer, the coach of South Carolina, bemoaned the fact that despite their strong performance, they lost to Alabama. His main worry going into the game was that the Gamecocks' preparation for this week wouldn't be tainted by the disappointment of that outcome.

"Not preparing the right way can guarantee you have no chance," he stated. "We're gonna continue to pour into them and continue to coach."

The Gamecocks' main problem has been a lack of offensive production. They have managed 10 points or less three times, averaging just 16.8 points in SEC games. No Gamecock has rushed for 300 yards this season, which puts additional pressure on quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who has only thrown six touchdown passes in a year after throwing 18.

Conversely, Ole Miss has put together another potent offense thanks to Kiffin's outstanding work with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Early in the fourth quarter against Oklahoma, he threw the game-winning touchdown pass and finished with 315 passing yards.

Since Week 3, the transfer from Division II Ferris State has thrown 210 passes with just one interception and amassed 2,160 yards of total offense. Since Eli Manning in 2001, he is the first Rebel quarterback to pass for at least 250 yards in each of his first six starts.

Kewan Lacy, a transfer from Missouri, has had a strong season for Ole Miss, rushing for 696 yards and 12 touchdowns. With Harrison Wallace III averaging 17.8 yards per catch and Cayden Lee and Dae'Quan Wright each averaging 18.4, five receivers have caught between 19 and 26 passes.

FREE PICK: OLE MISS -12.5

Last year, Ole Miss traveled to South Carolina as a 10-point favorite. Now at home this season, the Rebels opened as 11.5-point favorites and that number has been bet up to 12.5. Ole Miss is 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their home games this season. They rank 21st in the nation in Offensive Success Rate and 12th in Finishing Drives. The South Carolina offense ranks 123rd and 131st in the same two categories. The Gamecocks offense just won't be able to keep up tonight.
