Bowl games are often about motivation and there might not be a bowl team more motivated than Delaware. Making the transition from the FCS to the FBS this year, the Blue Hens were ineligible for a bowl game.
However, the decisions made by Notre Dame, Kansas State, and Iowa State not to participate in bowl games changed all that. Delaware was granted a waiver that will allow the team to play in its first-ever FBS bowl game.
The Blue Hens quarterback, Nick Minicucci had one of the best seasons in the FBS. He finished fifth in passing yards and he threw for 22 touchdowns. He also had 10 rushing touchdowns.
Tonight, Minicucci will face a suspect Louisiana defense. The Ragin' Cajuns do not defend the pass very well. They rank 87th in pass defense, allowing 228 yards per game. Louisiana also allowed 11.7 yards per pass.
Minicucci had some big games this season, throwing for 300-plus in 4 of his last 5 games. He also threw at least two TD passes in 3 of those 5 games. Against that weak Louisiana pass defense, I like Minicucci to have himself a night.
