These two square off for the ACC title tonight at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. It's a rematch of a regular season game played on Nov. 15. Virginia dominated and won that game rather easily, 34-17.
In that game, Virginia's offense piled up 540 total yards. The defense was even better, holding Duke to season lows in points, and rushing and passing yards. The Blue Devils gained a total of just 255 yards in that game.
Virginia was a 5-point road favorite in that game and the Cavaliers are now 3.5-point favorites at a neutral site. Expect Virginia to dominate once again, but it all starts in the first quarter.
The Cavaliers rank 12th in the nation in first quarter scoring and the defense is No. 8 in first quarter points allowed. As a result, Virginia has covered the first quarter spread in 10 of its 12 games this season. They have held a lead in 10 of those 12 games after the first quarter.
Virginia held a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter of that Nov. 15th game against Duke. The Blue Devils are actually one of the worst first quarter teams in the FBS. Duke ranks 112th in the nation in first quarter points allowed.
