It's the most anticipated game in North Carolina football history. The Bill Belichick era begins tonight in Chapel Hill when the Tar Heels host TCU. The Horned Frogs enter as 3.5-point favorites fresh off a 9-4 season a year ago.
TCU has one of the better quarterbacks in the nation in Josh Hoover. He threw for 3,949 yards and 27 touchdowns last season. The Horned Frogs were better on defense last year too. Andy Avalos, the former head coach at Boise State, took over the defense last year and TCU was much improved. Heading into this season, Avalos has six returning starters.
This game opened with a total of 57.5 and in early betting has dropped to 55.5. The books are not expecting the shootout that many have envisioned. UNC brought in former South Alabama QB Gio Lopez and has two breakout stars in RB Davion Gause and WR Jordan Shipp.
However, it's the UNC defense that will likely be the star of this team. North Carolina and defense haven't gone together in several years. Steve Belichick, Bill's son, will run the Tar Heels defense, fresh off a successful stint at the University of Washington last season.
Surprisingly, 6 of North Carolina's last 9 games last season ended with the total going Under. In the end, the defenses will win out as both defenses will have the edge in this one tonight.
