GEORGIA @ TENNESSEE (UGA -3.5, 50.5)
In their respective SEC openers, the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers and the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, hoping to end a protracted losing streak against their infamous rival.
Although Tennessee (2-0) has easily defeated East Tennessee State and Syracuse, Neyland Stadium will be alive with a whole new spirit on Saturday. The Volunteers are hoping to snap an eight-year losing streak against Georgia when ESPN's "College GameDay" visits town for the 55th meeting between the longstanding SEC rivals.
Josh Heupel, the head coach of Tennessee, stated, "We are aware of the challenge we face against a very strong Georgia football team." "This weekend is fantastic. "GameDay" has the chance to appear on the biggest stage in college football."
Joey Aguilar, a fifth-year quarterback, has taken over under center after the offseason drama surrounding Nico Iamaleava's departure, and he has shown promise in the first two weeks. Ahead of his biggest test, the transfer from UCLA (spring 2025) and Appalachian State (2023–24 seasons) has thrown for 535 yards and five touchdowns in two decisive wins.
Aguilar declared, "I'm really excited," about playing Georgia. However, we have to go out and play against another team on our schedule. I'm eager for the preparation week, to go out there, to trust my guys, and to play the way we play."
From the Vols' point of view, the most memorable moment in the rivalry was probably when Joshua Dobbs hit Jauan Jennings on a Hail Mary as time ran out in 2016, giving Tennessee a 34-31 victory in Athens. Since then, Tennessee hasn't defeated Georgia.
The Bulldogs have dominated the series since first-year Georgia head coach Kirby Smart lost that game, defeating the Volunteers three times in a row. However, Smart is well aware that Saturday has little to do with the team's 31-17 victory from the previous year.
"When you play in the SEC and you're in these really tough Top 10 matchups, Top 25 matchups, they can go either way a lot of times," Smart stated. We've played them physically, and they've played us physically. Being at home usually helps either team, in my opinion, but I'm not sure what you can blame because this year is unrelated to past years."
Georgia (2-0) hasn't faced a real challenge in its first two home games, just like Tennessee. The Bulldogs defeated FCS opponent Austin Peay 28–6 in Week 2 after defeating Marshall by 38 points.
In front of 101,915 spectators in Knoxville, quarterback Gunner Stockton is scheduled to make his first road start of the season, marking his first "welcome to the SEC" moment.
During his two home starts, Stockton has thrown for 417 yards and two touchdowns and gained 86 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
FREE PICK: 1Q OVER 10
Both teams typically get off to fast starts and they've continued that this season. Tennessee averages 17 points in the first quarter. Georgia averages 14. In the past six meetings between these two teams (all won by the Bulldogs), the two teams have combined to score at least 10 points in the first quarter in all six games. Expect more of the same today.
