This is another numbers play. One of our best bets last night was on the Padres and Royals to go Under the F5 total. We cashed that as Dylan Cease and Noah Cameron did exactly what we thought. The Padres ended up winning the game 5-1.
Today, it's the rubber game of the series. San Diego starts my favorite (note that is sarcasm) pitcher, Randy Vasquez. Kansas City goes with Seth Lugo. On paper, Lugo appears to be the better option, but remember, we play numbers.
The Royals opened as a -118 favorite. That number continues to drop in favor of the Padres. You'll find San Diego at even money or even the favorite at some sportsbooks. I'm not a fan of Vasquez, but he continues to defy his xERA. His ERA is still sub-4.00 at 3.70. He faces a KC lineup that is nothing special, though they have won 4 of their last 5 games.
Like yesterday's free pick, we'll trust the numbers and side with the Padres to cover. The Padres are tied for No. 1 in MLB in run line covers. San Diego is 44-32 on the run line this season.
