YANKEES @ RED SOX 6/28/26

Tonight’s pitching matchup features a battle of veterans: left-hander Carlos Rodón for the Yankees and right-hander Sonny Gray for the Red Sox. Fenway Park remains one of the most hitter-friendly environments in baseball, currently ranked 5th overall in Park Factor (102), which significantly boosts hits (104) and runs (104).

The Red Sox enter as slight home favorites in what the market views as a near-toss-up. Boston has shown resilience at home, and the statistical profile of Gray suggests he may have the edge in navigating the Yankees' lineup, despite some historical struggles against specific New York hitters.

While the Yankees have won 6 of the last 10 head-to-head meetings, Boston’s home-field advantage at Fenway is amplified by the park's tendency to favor right-handed pitching over left-handed power in certain conditions.

Gray has a 21.7% strikeout rate against this current Yankees roster. While he has surrendered some big hits to Ben Rice (2 HRs in 6 PA), he has historically dominated Paul Goldschmidt (8 SO in 30 PA) and Anthony Volpe (4 SO in 9 PA).

The Yankees are significantly shorthanded, missing the massive production of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, both of whom are on the 10-Day IL. This leaves a massive void in the middle of the order that Rodón may not be able to compensate for if the Red Sox offense clicks early.

GAME TOTAL

The total for tonight’s game is set at a relatively modest 8.0 runs across most books. Given the park factors and the specific pitching matchups, the Over presents a compelling narrative.

Fenway Park suppresses home runs (86 factor) but heavily inflates doubles and singles, leading to sustained rallies. Rodón has a strong season ERA (3.70), and his history against the Red Sox roster shows a .227 BA allowed, but with a .427 SLG, indicating that when contact is made, it is often for extra bases. Red Sox hitters like Connor Wong (.400 BvP) and Carlos Narváez (.333 BvP) have seen Rodón well.

On the flip side, Yankees' Ben Rice is hitting .750 career against Gray with two home runs. With key pitchers like Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford on the 60-Day IL for Boston, the bullpen depth could be tested if Gray exits early.

TOP PLAYER PROPS TONIGHT

Gray has been a workhorse for the Red Sox recently, and his efficiency will be key tonight. Gray has hit the over on his Outs prop in each of his last 5 games, averaging 19.4 outs per start. Over his last 10 games, he has maintained a 70% hit rate on this prop.

In his one start against the Yankees in 2026, he went deep into the game, recording 19 outs in 6.1 innings. The Yankees' current lineup, missing Judge and Stanton, is less likely to drive up his pitch count through long, high-stress plate appearances.

Gary is averaging 16.36 outs per game on the season, but his home splits are superior, hitting the Over in 7 out of the 10 games he has started at Fenway.

DraftKings

Ceddanne Rafaela has been one of the most consistent contact hitters for Boston, especially when playing in front of the home crowd. He has hit the Over 0.5 Hits in 80% of his last 5, 10, and 15 games. He is currently on a tear, averaging 1.4 hits per game over his last five outings.

Rafaela boasts a 71.43% hit rate over 77 games this season. At home, that number remains elite at 72.5%. He has a career .200 average against Rodón but has already taken him deep for a home run. His 23.5% strikeout rate against Rodón is manageable given his current form and the hitter-friendly dimensions of Fenway.

Fanduel

Seigler is a high-upside play tonight based on his recent form and historical success against the Yankees' pitching staff. Seigler has hit the Over 0.5 Hits in 100% of his last 5 games, averaging 1.6 hits per game in that span. Over his last 10 games, he has a 70% hit rate.

Matchup Analysis: He has been perfect against the Yankees in 2026, hitting the Over 0.5 Hits in each of his 4 matchups against them this year, with a mean of 1.25 hits per game. He has hit the Over in 75% of his home games (3 out of 4), showing he is comfortable in the Fenway environment.

DraftKings

While Rodón may give up some runs, his ability to miss bats remains his primary weapon. Rodón has hit the Over on his strikeouts prop in 60% of his last 5 and last 10 games. He is averaging 5.75 strikeouts per game this season.

The Red Sox lineup features several high-strikeout targets. Rodón has historically struggled with efficiency against Boston (4.5 SO mean in 2025), but his 2026 form shows an uptick in K-rate. His strikeout rate is nearly 27 percent for the season.

FREE PICK: SONNY GRAY OVER 4.5 HITS

Gray has been pitching very well as of last. Since the beginning of May, he’s 7-0 with a 2.36 ERA. But, he has given up some hits and that could be because he is going deep into games. He’s pitched at least 6 innings in each of his last 5 starts and he allowed 6, 6, 5, and 8 in the last 4. For the season, Gray has allowed 5 or more hits in 8 of his 14 starts (57%) and there are a number of Yankees hitters that have hit Gray well. In a start against NYY on June 5, Gray pitched 6.1 innings, allowed 8 hits and 3 ER in a 5-3 win over the Yankees. Gray has 9 career starts against NYY. He’s allowed 5 or more hits to the Yankees in 7 of those games.
