We've got one of the best young talents in baseball taking the mound today for the Reds against one of the best left-handers in all of baseball. It's Chase Burns for the Reds and he was pretty good in his MLB debut last week against the Yankees.
In five innings, Burns struck out eight batters, but he did give up a home run and 3 earned runs total. It will be the first time that Boston sees Burns, so expect the rookie to have the advantage the first time or two through the batting order.
Garrett Crochet starts for the Red Sox and he has been Boston's stud. He's 7-4 with a 2.06 ERA. He's allowed 2 ER or less in 10 of his last 11 starts and he's one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball. He is second in MLB with 135 strikeouts.
Cincinnati has struggled against LHP like Crochet. Over the last 30 days, they are hitting .241 with a .720 OPS, a high strikeout rate, and a low walk rate. Crochet has a 31.3 percent strikeout rate this season. He and Burns should be able to limit runs early in this game.
