LA DODGERS @ CINCINNATI (LAD -160, 9.5)
CHASE BURNS OVER 5.5 STRIKEOUTS
The Dodgers continued their skid losing two of three to the Red Sox over the weekend. The Reds swept the Rays and now continue their home stand by hosting Los Angeles tonight. The Dodgers should have the pitching matchup with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers, but Reds rookie Chase Burns has some value tonight.
Burns is just 0-2 in his five starts this season. His ERA is 6.65, but if there is one thing he does well, it is strike out opposing hitters. He gave up six runs, five earned, in his last start against a Washington, but Burns also struck out 10 Nationals hitters. He struck out 10 in the start before that one too.
Don't forget, in his very first-ever MLB start, Burns faced the Yankees. He struck out the side to start the game and then went on to strike out eight. For the season, Burns has 35 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. He'll face a Dodgers team tonight that whiffs an average of 8.35 times per game.
Over the weekend in their series with the Red Sox, the Dodgers averaged over 10 strikeouts per game. Burns may give up some runs, but he's faced at least 14 batters in 4 of his 5 starts. Burns K/9 is a ridiculous 14.54. He had at least 7 strikeouts in 4 of his 5 starts. The one he didn't was the one he didn't make it out of the first inning.
