MILWAUKEE @ NY METS (NYM -144, 8.5)
BREWERS ML
New York opened as a -160 favorite in this game after splitting a doubleheader with the Brewers yesterday. The line movement, coupled with the pitching matchup, makes it a great opportunity to cash on a plus-money underdog.
Jose Quintana starts for the Brewers. He'll go up agains this former team and it's a good matchup for him. The Mets are dead last in MLB over the last 30 days in OPS (.532) and ISO (.078). They have a 23 percent strikeout rate and a low walk rate (5.6%) to go with it.
David Peterson starts for the Mets and the matchup isn't so great for him. That's because the Brewers have been crushing left-handers. They are No. 2 in MLB in ISO vs. LHP over the last 30 days. Plus, the Mets have lost 4 of Peterson's last 5 starts and he was awful in his last two.
Peterson pitched 8.2 innings against Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. He gave up a total of 13 base hits, 2 home runs, and 10 earned runs in a pair of losses. Peterson's expected numbers (4.18 xERA compared to 3.30 ERA) are starting to catch up with him. The Met bullpen is taxed too, having to be used heavily in yesterday's doubleheader.
And, don't forget. Quintana pitches well on the road. He's 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA in six road starts this season. Milwaukee is 9-3 in its last 12 games and they've won 14 of the last 19 against the Mets. New York has won just 4 of its last 18 games.
