This is an underrated pitching matchup here with two guys who have similar ERAs. Eury Perez is 4-3 with a 3.25 ERA in 11 starts this season. After a tough first month in June, Perez really settled in and pitched to a 1.29 ERA in July. He had six straight starts with 2 earned runs or less before giving up 5 in his last start against Atlanta.
Now, he has to go up against a Cleveland lineup that is really catching some heat. The Guardians have won 10 of their last 12 games and they have averaged over 5 runs per game in the process. Even if Perez pitches well, he's only gone past the sixth inning once and the Marlins bullpen is mediocre at best. Cleveland catches Perez in his poorer split too. He has a 4.01 ERA in his road starts this season.
Gavin Williams starts for Cleveland and he's been outstanding recently. He was one out shy of a no-hitter in his last start. That gives him four consecutive quality starts. For the season, he is 7-4 with a 3.17 ERA and he pitches better at Progressive Field. In his home starts this season, Williams is 5-2 with a 2.77 ERA. The Guardians bullpen ranks in the top 5 in ERA at 3.47.
