This is probably not a very popular pick, especially since Hunter Greene starts for the Reds tonight, but bear with me. Yesterday, there was value on the Angels run line with Brady Singer pitching for the Reds. Singer delivered a rare road gem, going 6 innings, striking out 6 and allowing no runs. The Reds won the game 4-1.
Tonight, Greene makes his second start post injury. His first was a beauty. He pitched 6 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Philadelphia. He is a strikeout dependent, power pitcher.
Now, Greene has not given up a lot of home runs this season (9), but his HR per 9 number is 1.23. Anything over 1.0 is a concern. The only reason I bring it up is because the Angels do two things really well - strike out and hit home runs.
The Angels are fourth in the majors in home runs and sixth in ISO (isolated power). Because of their power numbers, the Angels can keep this one close. Plus, the Reds won last night and have an ace pitcher on the mound tonight. What could go wrong?
Kyle Hendricks starts for the Angels and when you look at him on paper, it's not great. He's just 6-8 with a 4.88 ERA. It's a pitching mismatch, but consider his last 12 starts. The Angels won 7 of those games and 8 of them were 1-run games. And, the Angels are 66-59 on the run line this season, 7-3 in their last 10 at home.
