At first glance, you probably want to ride the Over here. It makes sense. The first two games of this series were high-scoring. St. Louis won both games - 7-4 and 8-3. Both of tonight's starting pitchers have ERAs over 5.00 and Sandy Alcantara's ERA is above 6.00!
Still, there is value on the Under. Most sportsbooks have this juiced slightly to the Under and here's why. Alcantara has had his moments this season and we've strategically played those. One such moment was a scoreless 5-inning performance against these Cardinals on July 29. Alcantara also has pretty good numbers against current Cardinals hitters and he has a career 1.81 ERA in 7 starts.
Andre Pallante is 6-10 with a 5.04 ERA this season. He is a ground ball specialist with a ground ball rate of 60.4 percent. On July 28, Pallante pitched 7 innings, allowed just one hit, and no runs in a win over Miami. The Marlins are a team that hits a lot of ground balls.
Both starters should be able to go 5 to 6 innings and prevent what we've seen in the first two games. Plus, the Marlins will be looking to avoid the sweep. Expect a close, low-scoring game tonight.
