Over the last two days, I've backed Cristopher Sanchez, Noah Cameron, Matthew Boyd, and Hunter Brown. Between them, they have 40 wins and all four have sub-3.00 ERAs. All four also got beat over the last two days with Brown probably the most ridiculous of the four.
If you look at Brown's stat line a month from now, you'll wonder what the heck happened. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out seven. And he got beat 6-1! So, why in the world would we back Framber Valdez tonight?
Framber is another guy who is 11-7 with a 3.32 ERA, but he's been awful lately. The Astros have lost each of his last five starts and he's allowed 19 earned runs in his four starts this month. In August, Valdez is 0-3 with a 7.33 ERA.
Still, there is hope. The books target Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander to give up more than 2.5 earned runs. Dollander has a 6.91 ERA, the third-highest among starting pitchers with at least 50 innings this season. In August, Dollander is 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA. Plus, despite what they did last night, the Rockies still have the worst road OPS (.266) in MLB.
The Astros have actually been pretty good against the F5 run line over the last month or so. Houston has covered the F5 run line in 16 of their last 26 games, including 4 of the last 5. The Astros bounce back tonight with Valdez on the mound.
