Despite 10 innings and one earned run in his last two starts, Verlander is still just 1-8 on the season with a 4.53 ERA. The Giants have won just five of his 18 starts this season.
Johan Oviedo last pitched for the Pirates in September 2023. He had surgery to repair a torn UCL and missed all of last season. In spring training this year, he had a lat strain and will finally make his first start of the season tonight. He made five rehab starts, pitching a total of 16.2 innings. Oviedo struck out 20, had a WHIP of .090, and an ERA of 2.16.
The Pirates swept the Giants in San Francisco last week. The Giants turned around and took two of three games from the Mets over the weekend. Still, San Francisco has just two wins in its last nine games.
Pittsburgh has won seven of its last ten games. They are much better at home too. The Pirates are 31-25 at PNC Park this season and they're 31-25 ATS at home as well.
