The Pirates took care of business last night with a walk-off 5-4 win over the Pirates to cash yesterday's free pick. The Giants are favored again and we get a rematch of the pitching matchup that took place in last week's Giants-Pirates series in San Francisco.
Logan Webb starts for the Giants against Mike Burrows of the Pirates. Webb went 5.2 innings in that start last week. He struck out 11 and gave up just one earned run. It was not enough though as the Pirates would come back and win that game in extra innings.
Burrows has been pitching very well as of late. Over his last three starts, he's given up 1, 0, and 2 earned runs. Two of those starts were quality starts, including his last one which was the game against San Francisco. Burrows pitched 6 innings, allowed 1 earned run, and he struck out 7 batters.
Remember, the Pirates swept San Francisco last week and won last night. They have now won 7 of their last 9 games and 6 of their last 7 at PNC Park. With another run line cover, that makes 12 in the last 13 games and 32-25 on the run line at home for the season.
Webb is one of MLB's best starters. He's 9-8 with a 3.31 ERA, but his July was awful. He had three starts where he allowed 4 or more earned runs and his ERA for the month was 6.16. He's also one of the least profitable F5 pitchers in baseball. The Giants are 7-16 on the F5 run line in his 23 starts this season. The Pirates are 12-1 on the F5 run line in their last 13 games.
