This is a lopsided pitching matchup in favor of the Marlins, a team that has been very good on the road as of late. The Marlins have just been solid since the middle of June, winning 31 of their last 47 games. Tonight, Eury Perez makes his 11th start against veteran Carlos Carrasco.
Perez started the season in June and it didn't go well for the young pitcher early. In June, he posted an ERA of 6.19. Included in there is a start against Atlanta on June 21. Perez gave up 3 earned runs in 4.2 innings.
Since July 1 though, he has really come into his own. His ERA is 1.05. In July, Perez made 5 starts. He went 3-1 and had an ERA of 1.29. He's allowed 2 earned runs or fewer in 6 straight starts. He's the better option here tonight.
Carrasco made his first start for Atlanta just last week. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs to record a quality start. However, he did give up a home run and he walked two batters. He has a low strikeout rate and his hard hit rate is just above 40 percent.
The Braves won't have Ronald Acuna Jr. or Austin Riley in the lineup tonight either. It's going to be tough to manufacture runs against Perez without those two studs. The Marlins have won 6 of their last 8 games and 15 of their last 20 on the road.
