TAMPA BAY @ KANSAS CITY (KC -9, 45.5)
CHIEFS -9
This is a big number, but I like Kansas City to cover it. The offense hasn't been the Chiefs of the last few years, but Mahomes and company have done enough to go 7-0. The Chiefs defense has been outstanding. Tonight, KC and Steve Spagnuolo will give Baker Mayfield a heavy dose of pressure and man coverage. The last time Mayfield saw man-heavy coverages was against Detroit and Denver back in Weeks 2 and 3. In those two games, Tampa Bay averaged 219.5 total yards and 13.5 points.
Mayfield will not have his top two wide receivers either. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are both out. That should limit the Bucs. Weather could be a factor as well. Rain is expected tonight. The Chiefs have won their last 13 games in a row. I don't see anything preventing them from another W. Kansas City has also gone 10-2-1 ATS in those 13 games.
NEW YORK @ HOUSTON (NY -3.5, 219)
KNICKS -3.5
The Knicks are starting to put things together. Two straight wins. Two straight big games by their star players. Two strong defensive efforts. Houston has been inconsistent at best. They beat Dallas last Thursday on the road then come back home, blow a 23-point lead, and lose to the Warriors.
New York has owned this series. The Knicks are 8-2 SU and ATS in the last 10 games against the Rockets. New York has won and covered in 3 of its last 4 games. They shot very well in each win. The Rockets haven't shot over 41 percent in any of their last four games.
TOWSON @ SAINT MARY'S (SMC -11.5, 126)
TOWSON +11.5
Saint Mary's is the second-best team in the West Coast Conference and soon to be the best after Gonzaga leaves for the new revamped Pac-12. The Gaels are always among the best defensive teams in the nation. Last season, they finished third in the country in scoring defense, allowing teams 60.2 points per game.
Towson, which used to be Towson State back when Coach Rick beat up on them in college football, won 20 games last year playing a style similar to Saint Mary's. The Tigers finished last season ranked 10th in scoring defense, giving up 64.2 points per game.
Both teams play very slowly on offense. Last season, Saint Mary's ranked No. 352 out of 362 Division I team in pace. Towson ranked No. 354. This should be a defensive, physical, grind-it-out type game which should allow Towson to keep this one within single digits.
