TAMPA BAY @ DALLAS (DAL -8.5, 48)

BUCCANEERS @ COWBOYS 10/8/26

Dallas wins this game. The Cowboys are the better team on both sides of the ball, they're at home, and they're catching a Tampa Bay squad that's 0-4, starting an undrafted rookie quarterback, and missing its starting QB. The sharp money agrees — Dallas carries a 79.54% sharp win percentage on the moneyline. But the value isn't on the Cowboys moneyline at -450. It’s elsewhere. Let’s take a look.

THE MATCHUP

This is a classic "great offense vs. terrible defense" collision. Dallas has the 6th-ranked offense by DVOA and the 2nd-highest scoring offense in football at 30.5 points per game. Tampa Bay counters with the 8th-ranked defense by DVOA — a genuinely good unit that's been hung out to dry by an offense that ranks 23rd in DVOA and dead last in EPA per play.

The Cowboys' defense is a disaster — 32nd in DVOA, 28 points allowed per game, and a league-worst 6.52 yards per play allowed. But here's the catch: they're facing a Tampa Bay offense led by rookie Jalon Daniels, making just his second career start, with Baker Mayfield out (thumb). The Bucs scored 14 points last week and rank 28th in passing touchdowns and 32nd in sacks allowed (4.0 per game). Dallas's defense is bad, but Tampa Bay's offense may be worse right now.

💰 VALUE ON THE SPREAD

The Bucs are 2-13 all-time at Dallas, and there's simply no value laying -450 on a team this heavily priced. It’s also hard to back a Bucs team with a backup QB and an anemic offense. However, there is some value on the Bucs to stay within that 8.5-point margin.

The case for Tampa Bay: their defense is legitimately good. They rank 3rd in yards allowed (302.75 per game), 3rd in rushing yards allowed (78.5), 2nd in yards per carry allowed (3.2), and 6th in yards per play allowed (5.31). They've held opponents to the 3rd-fewest plays in the league. Meanwhile, Dallas's defense is so bad — 31st in opponent EPA per play, 32nd in opponent success rate, 32nd in defensive DVOA — that even a rookie QB should be able to move the ball enough to keep this within a touchdown.

Daniels also showed real rushing ability in his debut, running 8 times for 55 yards. Against a Dallas defense that's been torched by running quarterbacks all year (Jaxson Dart 54 yards, Jayden Daniels 69 yards, Lamar Jackson 50 yards), his legs are a genuine equalizer.

Then, consider that while the Bucs have lost all four of their games this season, they have kept each one close. They have lost their games by 3, 7, 4, and 6 points. The Bucs have yet to be blown out.

THE GAME TOTAL

The total opened at 47.5 and remained there until today when some action came in on the Over. It makes sense as we have a Dallas team that ranks No. 2 in scoring but also has one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Cowboys allow 28 ppg and, not surprisingly, the Over has cashed in each of the Cowboys last 10 games.

The Cowboys' offense is 5th in EPA per play and 8th in success rate, and they're facing a Tampa Bay defense that, while good against the run, ranks 28th in completion percentage allowed (69.35%) and 28th in third-down conversion rate defense (32.69%).

The concern is Tampa Bay's offense stalling. But Dallas's defense is so historically bad — last in yards per play allowed at 6.52 — that even Daniels should put up points. The Bucs scored 14 last week but that was against a much better Packers defense. This is a get-right spot for a struggling offense.

🏈TOP PLAYER PROPS

Bucky Irving Over 51.5 Rushing Yards (-113)

This is my favorite prop on the board. Irving has been the one consistent piece of Tampa Bay's offense, and the matchup is a dream. Dallas ranks 31st in rushing yards allowed (150.25 per game) and 27th in yards per carry allowed (4.77). They've surrendered 601 rushing yards through four games — second-most in the NFL.

Irving has cleared this 51.5 mark in 70% of his last 10 games and 75% of his last 20, averaging 59.2 and 68.55 yards respectively over those windows. He's gotten at least 15 carries in each of his last three games, and with a rookie QB under center, Tampa Bay will lean on the ground game to protect him. The projection sits at 55.01 yards — above the line.

Bucky Irving Over 13.5 Rushing Attempts

Stacking with the yards prop. Irving has gone over 13.5 carries in 80% of his last 5 and 10 games, and 86.67% of his last 15. His projection is 14.23 attempts. With Tampa Bay likely playing from behind and needing to control clock, plus a rookie QB they want to protect, the volume should be there. Dallas allows the 29th-most carries in the league (31.5 per game).

Chris Godwin Jr. Over 29.5 Receiving Yards

Godwin is the safety valve for a rookie QB, and the matchup is soft. Dallas ranks 29th in DVOA against No. 2 receivers and allows 245.75 passing yards per game. Godwin caught 6 of 7 targets for 31 yards in Daniels' first start — exactly the kind of quick, high-percentage target a young QB leans on.

He's cleared 29.5 yards in 70% of his last 10 games and 75% of his last 20, averaging 44.1 and 54.6 yards over those windows. His projection is 32.28 yards. With Tampa Bay likely trailing and throwing, Godwin's volume should hold.

Dak Prescott Over 274.5 Passing + Rushing Yards

Prescott has been excellent — 70% completion rate, 1,065 yards, 8 touchdowns, 1 interception — and he's facing a Tampa Bay defense that's vulnerable through the air despite its strong run defense. The Bucs rank 28th in completion percentage allowed and 28th in third-down defense

Prescott has cleared 274.5 combined yards in 70% of his last 10 games and 75% of his last 20, and he's hit 100% of his home games at this threshold (300 yards average). His projection is 279.86 yards. Dallas's offense runs through him, and with the Cowboys likely leading, he'll keep throwing.

Javonte Williams Anytime Touchdown

Williams has been Dallas's goal-line back, and he's found the end zone in 80% of his last 5 games and 75% of his last 20. He scored 3 rushing touchdowns last week against Houston. His projection is 0.9 touchdowns

Tampa Bay's run defense is stout (3rd in rushing yards allowed), but Dallas converts 81.3% of its red-zone trips into touchdowns, and Williams is the finisher. At -200, the implied probability is 66.7%, and his recent scoring rate supports it.

Jalon Daniels Over 44.5 Rushing Yards (-105)

This is the upside swing. Daniels ran 8 times for 55 yards in his debut, and Dallas has been shredded by mobile quarterbacks all season. The Cowboys rank 31st in rush defense largely because of QB scrambles. Daniels' projection is 48.01 rushing yards — above the line. At -105, you're getting plus-value on a player whose legs are his best weapon.

⚠️ INJURY WATCH

The biggest story is Baker Mayfield (thumb) out, which is why this line moved five points. Antoine Winfield Jr. (rib) is out for Tampa Bay — a massive loss for a secondary that now has to contain CeeDee Lamb, who's coming off a 17-catch, 189-yard explosion. Dallas is also banged up: Cobie Durant out, DeMarvion Overshown out, and a long injured reserve list including Tyler Smith and Jalen Thompson

The Winfield absence is the quiet killer here. Lamb already leads the NFL in receptions (37) and receiving yards (498), and now he draws a Tampa Bay secondary missing its best safety.
