The L.A. Rams second half comeback against the San Francisco 49ers was wild. Down 24-14 in the fourth quarter with less than 12 minutes to play, the Rams chances felt like they were slipping away, and the comeback was made even more impressive by the fact that both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are out right now.

So without his top two receivers, Matt Stafford led three scoring drives in a row, while the defense held their own and silenced the 49ers offense in the fourth quarter. The Rams veteran quarterback hit Tutu Atwell on a deep shot that put the offense inside the five, a drive that Kyren Williams finished off with a touchdown to level the game.

Then with five seconds to play, kicker Joshua Karty kicked the winner from 37 yards, completing a stunning comeback.

Under Sean McVay, you can never quite write off the Rams. Whether it feels like they’re rebuilding, or recovering from the loss of a Hall of Fame defensive tackle, or without their two All Pro receivers, they always find a way.

This week, they’re headed to Chicago, to face a Bears team that looked good on paper to start the year, but hasn’t quite found its rhythm. They’ll be devastated to have lost against the Colts last time out, in a game that saw both offenses struggle throughout. Caleb Williams threw two picks in the game, but given plenty of opportunity to throw the football, he did manage to throw for 363 passing yards and two touchdowns in the game too. The only kicker is that it took him 52 attempts.

Chicago are not running the football well so far this year, and it doesn’t seem that they’ve decided on a primary back either. Second year back Roschon Johnson looks good when he gets the ball, leading the team against Indy with 8 carries for 30 yards.

Defensively, Chicago looks a lot better. They’re defending the pass really well, allowing just 165 passing yards per game, 5.6 yards per pass, both ranking 6th in the NFL, and giving up just 25% on third down, second only to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Offensively, their run game is unsurprisingly in the bottom third in every category, including their 3 yards per rush (31st), 72 rushing yards per game (31st), and 3.7 overall yards per play (32nd).

It’s a lot of pressure to pile onto Caleb Williams, especially throwing the football 52 times in a game, and still not finding a way to win. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has been taking a lot of heat for his scheme, which hasn’t impressed the fans so far this year, but perhaps the return of Keenan Allen this weekend will help to open things up a little.

Chicago are 0-3 so far this year cashing overs, so we’ll be keeping an eye on that points total line this weekend against L.A.
